Trump Considers Joining TPP

  • President Trump told lawmakers and governors Thursday morning that the United States is looking to rejoin the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a trade deal he had at one point called a “rape of our country”
  • Pres. Trump commented on the deal on Twitter, saying that he would only do it if “the deal were substantially better than the deal offered to Pres. Obama”
  • Other members could make this hard, with officials in Japan, Australia, and New Zealand responding “coolly” according to the New York Times, and Japan’s chief cabinet secretary likening the trade agreement to “a glasswork,” saying it would be “difficult to bring part of the pact and renegotiate it”
